€12 million Labre Park redevelopment set for fewer houses after flood risk identified

The number of houses set to be built in the Labre Park redevelopment has been reduced to "between 14 and 18".

The Ballyfermot site - the first to be built specifically for the Travelling community by a local authority - is set to have €12 million pumped into it by Dublin City Council.

But after surveying the site, the Council and Ciuid Housing have announced that the initial target of 26 new homes will need to be reduced to between 14 and 18.

Part of the site, which lies beside the Grand Canal, was identified as a flood risk, and despite several design reviews, a workaround to guarantee the homes' safety could not be found.

In addition to the new homes, 20 existing houses at the site will be refurbished, as well as a new park and a community centre being developed.

The project is set to get going next year.
