12 hours in Chicago: 2 dead, 19 wounded � including 5 who were hurt in same attack

CHICAGO _ Two men are dead and at least 19 people were wounded in overnight violence, including five who were wounded in the same shooting on the West Side, Chicago police said.

The shootings began about 7 p.m. Friday and ended shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday, leaving 21 total victims shot, including two teenage boys and one teenage girl. Almost all occurred on the city's South and West sides.

The most recent fatal attack happened shortly after 5:30 a.m. in the 3200 block of South Huron Street in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. Residents heard shots and found a man, believed to be about 26, lying unresponsive in a gangway. The man had suffered at least three gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Friday night, 52-year-old Henry Daniels was fatally wounded shortly after 7:15 p.m. in the 3200 block of West Walnut Street in the same West Side neighborhood.

_Shortly after 6 a.m., a 38-year-old man was shot while he was walking in the 7000 block of South Throop Street in the Englewood neighborhood. He suffered a wound to the right leg and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

_About 5:15 a.m., a man believed to be in his early 30s was shot in the West Garfield Park neighborhood in the 4400 block of West Wilcox Street. He suffered a wound to the foot and got himself to Rush University Hospital, where he was in good condition, police said.

_Shortly before 4:25 a.m., two men were inside of a car in the 7500 block of South Lafayette Avenue in the West Chatham neighborhood. The two started arguing when they exited the car, and one of the men pulled out a weapon and shot the other two times in the upper body before fleeing. The victim, 34, was taken in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center, police said.

_About 4 a.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in the 2200 block of South Pulaski Road in the Lawndale neighborhood. The man was arguing with someone in the parking lot of an establishment when things turned violent, and he was shot in the back. The shooter fled in a purple Chevrolet Trailblazer, and the victim was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

_Shortly after 3 a.m., a 28-year-old man was standing outside with a large group in the 4600 block of West Monroe Street in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. He heard shots and felt pain. A bullet went through his hand to his leg. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

_About 2:55 a.m., a 15-year-old boy was shot in the 300 block of West 79th Street in the Gresham neighborhood. Two people approached the boy and shot him in the hand before fleeing the scene. He went in good condition to Comer Children's Hospital, police said.

_About 2:40 a.m., a 53-year-old man was shot in the 1300 block of West 13th Street in the Illinois Medical District neighborhood. He was walking with a friend when someone shot him four times. He suffered wounds to the shoulder, back, side and was grazed on the head. He went in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.

_Five victims were shot shortly after 2:30 a.m. in the 2400 block of West Jackson Boulevard. The victims were outside congregating when someone opened fire. All the victims got themselves to area hospitals. A 22-year-old woman suffered a leg wound; a 28-year-old man was shot in the lower backside; a 44-year-old woman was shot in the chin and was in serious condition; a 54-year-old man suffered a wound to the lower back; and a 28-year-old man was shot in the leg, police said.

_About 1:55 a.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in the 10500 block of South Wentworth Avenue in the Fernwood neighborhood. The victim was a passenger in a car when someone in a passing vehicle fired shots, hitting him in the leg. The man was driven to Roseland Community Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, police said.

_About 12:50 a.m., a woman was shot by her ex-boyfriend in the 400 block of West Briar Place in the East Lakeview neighborhood. The two were arguing inside a residence when she was grazed by a bullet in her lower back. She was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where her condition was stabilized. Her ex-boyfriend was arrested, police said.

_Shortly before 12:30 a.m. Saturday, a 17-year-old boy and girl were shot in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. The two teens were walking in the 1700 block of South Keeler Avenue when someone in a passing vehicle fired shots hitting them both. The boy was shot multiple times in the upper body and chest. He was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. The girl went to the same hospital, where her condition was stabilized with a wound to the arm, police said.

_About 9:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of East 93rd Street, in the Burnside neighborhood, two men were shot by someone in a possible black Dodge Charger. The men were walking when someone fired shots from a vehicle striking them both. One victim, 38, was shot in the chest and leg, and went in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center. The other man, 25, went to the same hospital with a wound to his leg. His condition was stabilized, police said.

_Shortly after 7 p.m. Friday in the 9800 block of South Michigan Avenue in the Roseland neighborhood, a 36-year-old man was shot while he was driving. Someone in a white SUV opened fire, grazing the victim's head. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Police reported no arrests, and detectives are investigating.
