12 big moments from an unforgettable Grand National at Aintree racecourse

The first Grand National was run in 1839, and today it sees millions watch from across the globe.

Over the decades, we've witnessed some iconic and dramatic moments - and this year was no exception. At the Grand National Festival 2023, we saw fashion statements, protests, celebrities and more.

Kicking off the event Thursday, racegoers stunned in brilliant outfits and we also saw the dress code dropped by The Jockey Club. Sharon Reid, 56, and Tracy Lauront, 60, travelled to Aintree from Warrington for the first day of the races. Sharon wanted to pay tribute to her friend whose funeral was on Thursday by looking for a "colourful horse"

Style Award winner Sian Jones took home title this year and 90-year-old Sadie Edwards also wowed at her first ever Grand National Ladies Day and captured the hearts of ECHO readers. And we saw a number of famous faces from Helen Flanagan to Mike Tindall.

Aintree marked the Hillsborough Anniversary with a minutes applause, including the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Cllr Roy Gladden, Ian Rush and Kenny Dalglish. Huyton couple Sarah McGuinness, 28, and Jordan Paget, 27, got engaged on Saturday and Derek Fox celebrated with Corach Rambler after winning the Grand National horse race.
