£11m community boost celebrated by Nisa

One of Scunthorpe’s largest employers, Nisa, has surpassed £11 million of fundraising through its registered charity.

The delivered wholesale specialist set up Making a Difference Locally in 2008, with funds distributed to communities in which the business and its partner store owners operate.

Averaging £1 million a year, the pace of the fundraising has been raised since the takeover by The Co-operative.

All Co-op own label sales now contribute a 0.6 per cent donation to the charity, in addition to the existing contributions made by Nisa’s Heritage range, collection tins and other initiatives deployed.

More than 2,300 stores participate.

Nisa’s head of charity, Kate Carroll, said: “We are delighted that our retailers and their customers have helped to raise more than £11m over the last 11 years for thousands of very deserving charities and good causes.

“We know that even relatively small donations can make a huge difference to local charities and communities, particularly in terms of social impact, and we look forward to providing even more support over the years to come.”

Nisa partners have supported local causes with almost 12,000 donations to date, with recipients ranging from youth sports teams and community groups to hospices and health and wellbeing charities.
