अफगानिस्तान में तालिबान युद्ध को कवर कर रहे न्यूज एजेंसी रॉयटर्स के चीफ फोटो जर्नलिस्ट दानिश सिद्दीकी की मौत हो गई. मीडिया रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, सेना और ताबिलान के बीच हुए संघर्ष के दौरान उनकी मौत हुई.
रॉयटर्स ने अपने पत्रकार की मौत की पुष्टि करते हुए लिखा, रॉयटर्स के पत्रकार दानिश सिद्दीकी की शुक्रवार को अफगान सुरक्षा बलों और तालिबान लड़ाकों के बीच झड़प को कवर करते हुए मौत हो गई.

अफगान सेना के अधिकारी ने रॉयटर्स को बताया कि अफगान विशेष बल स्पिन बोल्डक के मुख्य बाजार क्षेत्र पर फिर से कब्जा करने के लिए लड़ रहे थे, जब सिद्दीकी और एक वरिष्ठ अफगान अधिकारी तालिबान गोलीबारी में मारे गए.
रॉयटर्स के प्रेसीडेंट माइकल फ्रिडेनबर्ग और ए़डिटर इन चीफ एलेसेंड्रा गैलोनी ने जारी एक बयान में कहा कि, “हम इस मामले पर अधिकारियों के साथ काम करते हुए और अधिक जानकारी जुटा रहे है.”
भारत में अफ़ग़ानिस्तान के राजदूत फ़रीद मामुन्दजई ने भी दानिश की मौत की पुष्टि करते हुए ट्वीट किया है. उन्होंने अपने ट्वीट में लिखा, “कल रात कंधार में अपने दोस्त दानिश सिद्दिक़ी के मारे जाने की दुखद ख़बर से आहत हूं. पुलित्ज़र पुरस्कार विजेता भारतीय पत्रकार अफ़ग़ान सुरक्षाबलों के साथ थे. मैं उनसे दो हफ़्ते पहले मिला था, जब वे काबुल जा रहे थे. उनके परिवार और रॉयटर्स के लिए मेरी संवेदनाएं."

प्रेस क्लब ऑफ इंडिया ने भी दानिश सिद्दीकी की मौत पर दुख जताया और कहा कि सच्ची पत्रकारिता के लिए साहस की आवश्यकता होती है और दानिश की कार्यशैली इसका प्रमाण है.

उन्हें साल 2018 में रोहिंग्या शरणार्थी संकट पर फीचर फोटोग्रॉफी के लिए पुलित्जर अवार्ड दिया गया था.
