An 11-year-old girl has died after being found seriously injured on a street in Widnes, near Liverpool.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Sunday May 23, responding to reports that the schoolgirl had sustained serious injuries following an incident outside an address.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the child was taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital where she was said to be in a critical condition.
Despite the best efforts from the doctors and nurses, she tragically passed away four days later on Thursday May 27.
A spokesperson from Cheshire Police said her death is not being treated as suspicious and a case file will be prepared for the coroner.
Detective Inspector Rob Lees said: “This appears to have been a tragic accident and our thoughts remain with the child’s family at this difficult time.
“They are being supported by officers and we request for their privacy to be respected.”
In a previous statement, Cheshire Police said: "At around 11.20am on Sunday, May 23 police were called to reports that a 11-year-old girl had sustained serious injuries following an incident outside an address on Tedder Square in Widnes.
"Police and paramedics attended the scene and the girl was subsequently taken to Alder Hey Hospital, her condition is currently described as critical but stable.
"Officer are currently establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident, but at this stage it does not appear to be suspicious."
