11-year-old boy in hospital after he was hit by a car and airlifted from the scene in Neath

An 11-year-old boy was hit by a car in a crash in Neath which saw a road closed for nearly four hours.

Emergency services were called to the collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Dwr Y Felin Road at about 3.40pm.

The boy was airlifted to Morriston Hospital with non-life threatening injuries as a result of the crash.

In a statement, South Wales Police said this morning: "We were called to a road traffic collision at about 3.40pm involving a car and a pedestrian in Dwr Y Felin Road, Neath .

"An 11-year-old boy was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"The road was re-opened at about 7.25pm."

The ambulance service said the Wales Air Ambulance was called to the crash, adding that the aircraft arrived at the scene at 3.32pm.

The crew and patient left the scene at 4.09pm and arrived at the hospital at 4:13pm, the statement added.

The road was closed in both directions for nearly four hours, with traffic building up in the surrounding streets and motorists being advised to avoid the area.

Access to the NPTC Neath College was also blocked.
