Eleven new apprentices have been welcomed to expanding Scunthorpe furniture manufacturer Lebus Upholstery.
A total of 48 young people applied for the roles, with the successful cohort all aged between 16 and 19 and from the town.
They will embark on an intermediate level two qualifications in modern upholstery, joining the 500-strong workforce at the site off Brigg Road. All are guaranteed positions with the £39-million turnover firm once they successfully complete the training.
John Brewster, operations director at Lebus, said: “Lebus are committed to providing employment in the Scunthorpe area. Our apprenticeship plan started in January and we are delighted with the response, and the support we have had from the economic growth team at the council, and the Careers and Enterprise Company.
“The apprenticeship we provide will be detailed and thorough, culminating in a nationally recognised qualification. We look forward to seeing our 11 new apprentices succeed with us.”
One of the largest furniture manufacturers in the UK, Lebus produces sofas sold through retailers from the Queensway Industrial Estate base.
As well as the training and specialist skills they’ll need in their new positions, the new apprentices are also having their lunches part-funded by Lebus.
North Lincolnshire Council supported the employer in the recruitment process.
