11 shops we miss the most from Nottingham's Victoria Centre

Remember when Woolworths was in the Victoria Centre in Nottingham? Did the draw of the pick and mix call you in? Or La Senza for when you wanted something a little more special than cosy pjs?

There's a huge list of shops in the Viccy Centre that have come and gone. Some missed others easily forgotten, but when we asked the question "what shops do you miss the most from the Vic Centre?", Nottinghamshire Live readers certainly had an opinion.

So, based on reader replies, we took a trip down memory lane and created top ten shops that were missed the most.

Overwhelmingly, Woolworths came out top. One reader summed it up perfectly. Mundeep Basi simply wrote: "Woolworths - loved that store" adding, "And the gadget shop."

For many, remembering the stores from the past brought back childhood memories.

For Paul Taylor it was Zodiac Toy Shop that sparked the memory not only for himself but for others too. "Remember Zodiac toy shop?" he wrote.

Andrew Fox replied: "Loved Zodiac Toys. Remember pestering my mum for a jar of slime... and a fluffy fake worm on a piece of fishing wire. The simple pleasures in life."

Paul replied: "Remember those 'must have' items so well. My mum bought me Operation Game from there, marvellous memories!"

And the conversation about shops soon created more talking points about other features of the centre. The table service in Jessops' restaurant, the 'must see' aquarium that a trip to the shopping centre just had to include, the food court and a desire for an extended market "like it used to be back in the day".

Again, when it came to favourite shops it was the memories associated with them that elevated their status for readers.

Karen Jackson missed "Early Learning [Centre], I worked there till it closed in 2014. I miss it now I have a grandson."

For Fiona Duncan Steer more memories were evoked. "I loved The Sweater Shop as a teenager and La Senza - those smelly beads. Oh and I spent a lot of time in Jane Norman (the best carrier bags) Morgan, West One and Select. School shoes from Dolcis and hung out in HMV."

And while some shops didn't make it into the top 10, it doesn't they were any less loved.

Sammy Louise Westbury added: "As a teen I used to love Tammy Girl just outside Vic Centre, Select, Jane Norman, Bay Trading..."

While Jackie Cleverley remembers "Weir’s the jewellery shop. John bought my wedding ring from there in 1975".

Here are the shops that came out top according to readers

3. La Senza

4. Chelsea Girl

5. Build a Bear

6= Gap

6= Jane Norman
