The figures come after a Public Health England review confirmed black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) people in the UK are more likely to die from coronavirus.

The review, released on Tuesday, found that people of Bangladeshi ethnicity had around twice the risk of death than people of white British ethnicity.

People of Chinese, Indian, Pakistani, other Asian, Caribbean and black ethnicity had between 10% and 50% higher risk of death.

Members of black ethnic groups were most likely to be diagnosed with Covid-19, there was a spike in deaths of carers and transport workers, and men were more likely to die than women, the review into disparities around the risk of coronavirus also found.

It added that 169 care workers and home care workers and six senior care workers have died with the virus.
