11 Killed in Western Iraq Suicide Car Bombing

Iraqi security forces via Reuters

A suicide bomber blew up a vehicle in the town of Al-Qaim in western Iraq on Wednesday, killing at least 11 people and wounding 16 others, police said.

Among the wounded, 11 were civilians and the other five were security personnel, police Captain Mahmud Jassem told AFP.

Maj. Gen. Qasem al-Dulaimi said the attacker drove a booby-trapped vehicle into a joint security checkpoint managed by the Iraqi army and the Popular Mobilization Forces at the southern entrance to the town.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, according to its news agency Amaq.

The town on the Syrian border was one of the last in Iraq to be recaptured from ISIS in November 2017.
