11 coronavirus deaths in UK last 24 hours in lowest total since March

The UK has recorded a further 11 coronavirus deaths in the past 24 hours in the country's lowest daily increase since March 12.

Figures released this afternoon by the Department of Health and Social Care revealed that 44,830 people have now died from coronavirus across all settings as of 5pm on Sunday, an increase of eleven on yesterday's total.

These figures mark the lowest daily total since the second week of Mach, although there are frequent time lags in reporting of coronavirus deaths at weekends.

The government figures do not include all every Covid-19 deaths but do include care settings, hospitals and elements of the wider community.

In the past 24 hours there had been a further 530 confirmed UK cases of the disease.

A total of 290,133 cases have been confirmed in the UK since the pandemic began.

The news comes as new mobile coronavirus testing sites were launched in south Liverpool today after a concerning rise in coronavirus infections among young people in the city.

Members of the armed forces were spotted operating a mobile testing site in Woolton over the weekend and at Wavetree Sports Park on Monday.

There will also be a pop-up facility in Halewood - another area that has seen a rise in infections amongst young people - between Tuesday and Friday and then again from Friday to Sunday.

People are being urged to get tested instantly if they have any symptoms after new data recieved by local health chiefs indicated a swell of new infections in certain areas - particularly amongst young people.

There have been around 30 new cases of Covid-19 in south Liverpool and neighbouring Halewood over the last fortnight, with half of them in people aged 15 to 24.
