An £11.99 bottle of Champagne sold by Lidl beat bottles from brands including Moet and Taittinger in a blind taste test.
Consumer group Which? rated bottles of non-vintage (NV) French fizz from supermarkets and luxury Champagne houses for the December issue of its magazine.
An expert panel put together by Which? gave Lidl's £11.99 Veuve Delattre Champagne Brut NV a score of 77% in the blind taste test. The Lidl champagne scored higher than £35 a bottle Piper-Heidsieck Brut, £36-a-bottle Taittinger Brut Reserve N/V and £38 Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial. Which? recognised the Lidl champagne for "great value".

Lidl's Champagne was the cheapest bottle the experts tested, at around a third of the price of bottles by the famous houses.
The tasting notes for Lidl's Veuve Delattre Champagne Brut read: Veuve Delattre Champagne Brut say: "This Veuve Delattre Brut is a good, authentic Champagne made from the region’s classic grapes, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier. Flavoursome, with a reassuringly dry finish, discover ripe apple and lemon zest notes, along with a well-integrated fizz and good flavour. Serve a glass of this alongside savoury canapés."
