11,000 test Covid positive of 90,000 samples in Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state witnessed 11,079 positive cases of the 89,995 samples tested in the last 24 hours. Among the new cases detected, 9,327 people had taken the vaccination, and 2,802 people have not taken even a single dose. However, 3,462 who tested positive on the day had taken both doses.

The total active cases at present are 97,630, of which 10.4% of people are admitted either in hospitals or other treatment centres.

Meanwhile, 123 recent deaths were confirmed as caused by Covid, taking the death toll in the state to 26,571. At the same time, 9,472 patients have recovered from the disease.

Among the new cases, 10,608 cases have been infected through local transmission. The contact source of infection was not traceable for 360. There are 58 healthcare professionals among those infected, and 53 people have arrived from outside the state.

Ernakulam reported the highest number of cases with 1,794, followed by Kozhikode (1,155), Thiruvananthapuram (1,125), Thrissur (1,111), Kottayam (925), Kollam (767), Idukki

(729), Malappuram (699), Kannur (554), Pathanamthitta (547), Palakkad (530), Alappuzha (506), Wayanad (387) and Kasaragod (250).

The patients who tested negative are Thiruvananthapuram (1,058), Kollam (580), Pathanamthitta (520), Alappuzha (514), Kottayam (781), Idukki (648), Ernakulam (978), Thrissur (1,374), Palakkad (958), Malappuram (948), Kozhikode (601), Wayanad (461), Kannur (370) and Kasaragod (181).

There are a total of 3,39,688 persons presently under observation in various districts of the state, of which 3,28,426 are at their homes or institutional quarantine centres, and 11,262 are in isolation at hospitals.

As per the weekly infection population ratio, 211 wards in 158 local bodies are having a WIPR of more than10%. In these wards, strict lockdown restrictions have been implemented.

2.5 crore received first jab

On Tuesday, health minister Veena George said over twoand-a-half crore people (2,50,11,209) in the state have now taken the first vaccination dose. This is 93.64% of the total population of the state. The second dose of the vaccination has been taken by 44.50% people (1,18,84,300).
