£10m boost from the Government will help but live music sector still faces uncertain future

As Scotland opens bars, hotels, hairdressers and shops, the live events industry continues to feel the full effect of Covid-19 restrictions.

It’s going to be a long time before we get back to being able to go to a festival or concert with hundreds of other people.

Until social distancing is relaxed, we could be talking about months and perhaps even into next year.

So that’s why the £10million boost from the Government will help.

But those in the industry say it is too little and, with no timetable for events to restart, the uncertainty for those who work in the sector remains.

As TRNSMT festival organiser Geoff Ellis said: “The funding is definitely welcome but we’re going to need more of it.

“The issue we have as an industry is that we can’t really get back, in most areas, until social distancing goes away.”

The joys of hearing live music or watching a concert in one of the country’s great venues is something that has been hugely missed.

Let’s hope that money helps and they get more cash if they need it.
