Anti-violence activists on Tuesday announced a $10,000 reward for information about the shooting death of a man whose body was found in a vehicle near a South Side hospital on Christmas Eve.

Cyle Hemphill, 25, was found shot to death in a car near Trinity Hospital around noon Dec. 24, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

“With many cameras around here, around the hospital, we’re hoping that some of the surveillance footage can catch the image,” Andrew Holmes, a crisis responder, said during a Tuesday press conference near where Hemphill was found. “My understanding is that he might have been there a day before neighbors called [911] about a suspicious car.”

Hemphill, who lived in Beverly, was found slumped over in the front passenger’s seat of a car that was parked in front of a garage near the southern mouth of the alley in the 9300 block of South Oglesby.

An autopsy performed by the medical examiner’s office found that Hemphill died of several gunshot wounds.

Given the extent of Hemphill’s injuries and the lack of damage to the garage, trash cans and fences, it was evident he did not drive himself into the alley, Holmes said.

Michael Airhart, a fellow crisis responder, said the $10,000 reward offered on the family’s behalf was for any information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Hemphill’s death.
