109 rowdies held in Tamil Nadu under Goondas Act

CHENNAI: Police have arrested 109 history-sheeters last month in Kancheepuram district under the Goondas Act.

The rowdies were categorised as A and A plus depending on the cases they were involved in, police said.

Those arrested include men who had murder, attempt to murder, extortion and assault cases pending against them. To give an opportunity for the historysheeters to lead a reformed life, 246 history sheeters were asked to sign bonds not to be involved in crime incidents in the future.

Police sources said that many rowdies have shifted from the city to the outskirts fearing both arrest and also threats from their rival gangs. Some lead a reformed life, while others indulge in anti-social activities operating through their aides or supply weapons.

“Most of the notorious elements have been arrested. A special team will keep an eye on those given a bound over,” said a police officer.
