HYDERABAD: It is 105 days since a worker from Telangana had died in Saudi Arabia but his body is yet to reach his homeland. Even as the family of 41-year-old Alle Rajendar of Muthyampet in Jagtial’s Mallapur mandal is awaiting for the arrival of his body, another family is caught in a similar situation.
Srinivas Shivaratri died in Saudi Arabia two months ago but his body has not been sent to India yet. The Indian embassy in Riyadh said it may take another 2-3 weeks for procedures to be completed to send his body back.
The embassy informed that an NOC was issued on May 18 but there were local mandatory requirements like release of the body by police, labour office clearance, embalming of mortal remains by the hospital and cargo booking which are being completed by the sponsor/employer.
In the case of Rajendar’s body too. the embassy had informed that it had given an NOC on April 4 itself.
Social worker and representative of Telangana Gulf Workers JAC Muralidhar Reddy Gangula told TOI that he was in communication with the embassy and following up on these cases. He has been receiving emails about the procedures that were being followed. Srinivas died by suicide allegedly due to instability in his work after he reached Saudi Arabia.
