1047 Games Reveals 'Empulse,' Fast-Paced Mech Movement Shooter Set For Early Access

1047 Games, the studio behind "Splitgate," has officially revealed its next project earlier than expected. The new title, "Empulse," is a competitive 6v6 movement shooter that combines mech-based combat with high-speed traversal across a futuristic urban battlefield.

The announcement followed the unexpected appearance of early gameplay footage on Steam, prompting the developer to confirm key details and open early access sign-ups for players interested in testing the game before launch.

'Empulse' Gameplay Features Mechs and High-Speed Combat

Set in the futuristic city of Freehold, "Empulse" pits two teams against each other in fast-paced matches where mobility and tactical decision-making play a central role. Each match features two powerful mech units that spawn on the map, giving players who capture them a significant combat advantage.

However, mech warfare is only one part of the gameplay loop. Players can also engage in on-foot combat using a variety of movement tools, including grappling hooks, wallrunning mechanics, Holojumps, and explosive P.A.I.N.T. bombs designed to enhance both traversal and combat strategy.

The combination of agile ground movement and heavy mech battles creates dynamic matches where momentum can shift quickly depending on team coordination and map control.

Movement Shooter Design Focuses on Speed and Skill

1047 Games describes "Empulse" as a true "movement shooter," emphasizing fast reflexes, precision positioning, and skill-based combat over static firefights. Players are encouraged to constantly reposition, chain abilities, and outmaneuver opponents using the game's mobility systems.

This design philosophy continues the studio's established identity, building on the success of "Splitgate," which gained popularity for blending arena shooter mechanics with portal-based movement systems.

Early Access Planned For 2026 Amid Studio Transition

According to GameSpot, the developer has confirmed that "Empulse" is targeting an early access release window in 2026, although no specific launch date has been announced.

Interested players can already sign up through the game's official channels to participate in future testing phases.

The reveal comes during a challenging period for the studio. In 2025, "Splitgate 2" underwent restructuring, including layoffs and a return to beta before being reworked under a revised development approach.

Despite those challenges, 1047 Games maintains that player feedback and engagement remain strong indicators of long-term potential.
