1000 evacuated from Phillip apartments after electrical fire

Residents were evacuated due to a fire in a lift on Monday night. Picture: Supplied.

About 1000 people were evacuated from a Phillip apartment building overnight due to a lift fire.

ACT Fire and Rescue evacuted residents at the Ivy Apartments around 1.30am on Monday night as smoke filled several floors.

Firefighters extinguished an electrical fire in a lift on the 8^th floor of the building.

Residents were allowed back inside around 3am after the building was ventilated and air quality deemed safe.
