100-year-old shares secret to healthy living (Hint: Daily Exercise)

On August 27, 2022 Leslie “Les” V. Savino turned 100 years old. Tagged as Hanover's Iron Man by media outlets, Savino's healthy lifestyle is an inspiration.

Every Monday through Friday, he works out from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. — a routine he has kept since 1983, Daily Mail says in a report.

A military veteran who piloted heavy bombers during World War II, Savino’s lifestyle habits can be a good reference for youngsters who find it difficult to lead a good life these days due to several interventions, one of which is technology.

"Enjoys two martinis every night"

At this age, Savino prefers living independently and keeps an eye on whatever he eats.

He enjoys having two martinis every night.

Along with this, he drives himself to the gym every week.

"My days are just as normal"

In an interview to Today he revealed that though sometimes he does not feel like going to gym, he still makes sure to go there.

'Most people at 100 no longer enjoy life. My days are just as normal as when I was 30,' Savino told the media.

"Exercise is much better than medicine"

Breaking the myth around medicine consumption Savino says that exercise is much better than medicine.

"A lot of people just live on pills, but I don’t. I take pills for high blood pressure and that’s the extent of it," he reveals.

What does his gym routine look like?

He goes to the gym 5 days a week.

On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday he indulges in lifting weights. As per reports he uses 15 weight machines and does 45 reps on each for a total of 675 reps over the course of his three-hour workout.

He does cardio on Tuesday and Thursday. These days he rides on a stationary bike for 8 miles. He also walks on a treadmill for 2 miles. During these days he also focuses on toning exercises.

"He enjoys having homemade frittata"

Savino enjoys having frittata once a week. Frittata is an egg based Italian dish. Frittata means fried in Italian.

Apart from this he enjoys having vegetables and seafood.

He is a pescetarian mostly and has little meat in his diet.

At times he treats himself to cookies or a chocolate pudding.

He suffers from Ménière’s disease

As per the report, he has never suffered from any major illness though he has Ménière’s disease which is an inner ear disorder. Due to this a patient suffers from vertigo.
