100-year-old's friendship with binman leaves This Morning viewers emotional

This Morning viewers had their heart-strings tugged at the story of 100-year-old Dorothy Ballard and her friendship with 30-year-old Ben Bird's friendship.

The pair spoke to hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford via video link, charming people with their incredibly sweet friendship.

Dorothy, who is known as Mercy, hit the headlines after the binman Ben surprised the great-great-grandmother with a cake on her birthday.

Reaching the milestone last week, Dorothy received a telegram from the Queen, but was in store for another surprise when Ben turned up at her house equipped with a cake and some candles.

The ITV daytime programme rewarded Ben and his family with  a free holiday to Morocco for showing such kindness to his friend. Ever thinking of Dorothy, Ben quickly reassured her he would get fellow binman Joe to do her bins while he was away.

The segment had viewers praising the binman and commenting on how sweet the pair’s friendship is, reports the Mirror.

One tweeted: "I can’t cope with the cuteness! We love you Mercy! ✨✌ @thismorning #thismorning."

While another commented: "LOLLLL Dorothy is soooo funny! I love her!"

A third remarked: "This is the sweetest story ever #ThisMorning."

"Sobbing watching #ThisMorning today. What a lovely lovely bin man. So nice to hear lovely stories like that!" another wrote.

Another wrote: "Aww Ben, what a wonderful friendship...❤️ 70 years age gap means nothing! #thismorning."
