100 new jobs at BAE Systems as defence expert supports next generation tech for RAF and Royal Navy

Scores of jobs touted as ‘once in a generation opportunities' are being offered by BAE Systems in Brough as it ramps up recruitment to meet demand for vital UK defence programmes.

A total 100 roles are now open, with 50 senior engineering positions now made available, following recent calls for trainees across apprenticeship and graduate programmes.

With a long history of aircraft manufacturing, Brough is now regarded as BAE Systems’ centre for digital engineering excellence, and supports the delivery of some of the world’s most advanced defence programmes. These include Tempest, a new era combat aircraft, and the Dreadnought submarine fleet.

Since the end of traditional manufacturing of the Hawk jet in December 2020, work has been underway to evolve the site, and now it is geared up to provide next-generation capability for both the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy.

James Hardstaff, Brough site general manager, said: “I am proud to see the work at Brough continue to make an important contribution to the nation’s defence and security requirements.

“It’s an exciting time to join the business, as we take on some really complex and ambitious engineering challenges to support the delivery of the Royal Air Force’s Tempest programme and the Royal Navy’s Dreadnought submarine.

“The site currently employs around 700 people in a wide-range of roles and offers an excellent range of apprenticeship, undergraduate and graduate opportunities.”

Much of the work at Brough involves design, test and evaluation. It brings together new and novel digital engineering technologies such as synthetic modelling and model-based systems engineering. The roles are across design, mission systems, integration and software disciplines.

Recent investment in the Humber Bank site facilities has seen the creation of two new, contemporary and vibrant offices designed to support hybrid working and allow teams to connect and collaborate across the business - with further major operations in the North West and Scotland.

More information on the roles can be found here.
