Owned an Android? You may qualify for part of $135 million Google settlement

  • Google has agreed to a $135 million settlement in a lawsuit alleging its Android operating system transferred user data without permission, even when devices were idle.
  • The lawsuit claimed these unauthorized data transfers occurred in the background, consuming users' cellular data without their knowledge or consent.
  • To qualify for a portion of the settlement , individuals must be U.S. residents who used an Android device with a cellular data plan at any time since November 12, 2017.
  • An estimated 100 million people are eligible for this settlement, with a final approval hearing scheduled for June 23.
  • Eligible class members will receive payments electronically, though the exact amount each individual will receive has not yet been determined.
