The first South American Olympics will be hosted in Rio de Janeiro in less than 100 days from now. However, with Brazil having suffered a litany of problems of late, there are doubts over whether Rio will be ready. Political turmoil and economic recession has undermined confidence in Brazil recently and there are also lingering concerns over poor transport links and slow ticket sales.
Perceptions can change quickly though and the organisers see the Olympics as part of the solution for a demoralised nation rather than another problem. They hope the Games will reanimate Brazil and generate jobs. But there are still more questions than answers regarding the impact they will have in the country in the long term.
With the Olympic countdown underway, we’d like to hear how people in Brazil feel about the Games and the legacy they will leave behind. Are you excited and planning to attend? Or are you sceptical and worrying about the public costs? What hopes do you have for Rio as a host city?
