10-Year-Old Texas Boy Admits To Shooting Man While Sleeping

Students protest gun violence in front of City Hall, in Los Angeles

A shocking revelation has emerged from Nixon, Texas, where a 10-year-old boy confessed to shooting a man he did not know more than two years ago. The incident took place when the boy was just days away from his 8th birthday, and the victim, Brandon O'Quinn Rasberry, 32, was shot in the head while he slept at an RV park in Nixon.

Rasberry had recently moved into the RV park, and the boy, who was visiting his grandfather nearby, gained access to a pistol from his grandfather's truck. The child described entering Rasberry's RV, shooting him in the head, and firing another shot into the couch before leaving the scene.

Despite having no prior interaction with Rasberry and no apparent motive for the crime, the boy's confession led to the recovery of the murder weapon from a pawn shop. The firearm was linked to the crime through forensic analysis of spent shell casings found at the scene.

Following the confession, the boy was placed in emergency detention due to the severity of the crime and concerns about his mental well-being. He was later transferred to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation and treatment before being placed in juvenile detention on a separate charge related to a school bus incident.

Despite the gravity of the situation, the boy will not face murder charges under Texas law, which sets the minimum age for criminal culpability at 10 years old. The sheriff's office emphasized the need for support and understanding for the young boy, highlighting the importance of prayer, comfort, and forgiveness.

This tragic incident has left the community in shock, with Rasberry's family expressing disbelief at the turn of events. The victim, who had been employed at Holmes Foods in Nixon, is remembered fondly by those who knew him.
