A 10-year-old girl has died after being hit by an ambulance in Nottinghamshire.

The ambulance was responding to an emergency call when it struck Shaniqua Loftman-Smith in Bulwell around 6.30pm on 22 December, Nottinghamshire Police said.

She was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died on Monday.

Richard Henderson, chief executive of East Midlands Ambulance Service, said: “I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the patient’s family at this very difficult time, and my thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident.

“We continue to fully cooperate with the police in their investigation into what happened, and therefore it would be inappropriate for us to make any further comment at this time.”

“Officers from Nottinghamshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are continuing enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
