10 words to add to your vocabulary if you want to sound like a British Royal

When it comes to the British accent, there's something fascinating and exciting about it. It has its own charm and appeal, which makes people obsess over it. But who better than the British Royals can ace the language. Besides their luxurious and sophisticated lifestyle, their way of speaking, their use of selective words is what amazes the common people.

That said, to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, language expert marketplace Preply lists down the words you can add to your vocabulary, if you wish to sound like the royals.

Toff

Toff is a rich person who is said to belong to the upper class.

Elevenses

Elevenses is a short break taken at around 11am for a quick refreshment (tea or coffee). However, it's not to be confused with brunch.

Visage

This refers to a person's facial expression in association with the form or the proportion of the features. For instance, "there was something hidden behind his visage of cheerfulness."

Privy purse

Privy purse is the amount of money given to the Queen for personal expenditure.

Equerry

An officer of the British royal household, who helps the members of the family.

Pudding

Commonly known as a dessert, a pudding is served at the end of the meal.

Mummy

Mummy is the regal word for 'mother'. Interestingly, Prince Charles still calls his mother - The Queen - mummy.

Helping

You'll never see a royal asking for a second portion of food. Instead they'll call it "helping".

Lavatory

Unlike you or me, Royals refrain from using the word "toilet" or "bathroom". Rather they say "lavatory"

Commoner

A commoner is a person who does not belong to the royal family or nobility. It is a word used to refer to ordinary people who don't have a title.
