10 things you'll remember from Dublin in the 1990s

Arguably, the 1990s was one of the best decades to grow up in Dublin.

Before the Celtic Tiger pounced on the scene, the 90s was the time to be alive when one Irish punt could get you 100 penny sweets and kids spent their days playing kerbs until it was time for bed.

Take a trip down memory lane with us looking back at 10 things you'll remember from 90s Dublin if you were blessed enough to grow up in that era.

1. Brunch ice creams

When 'brunch' meant an ice cream - nowadays, we automatically think of the meal that combines breakfast and lunch.

2. Dublin Bus

Back in the 90s, Dublin Bus' livery was a shade of green. How patriotic of them!

3. Smoking indoors

Smoking indoors from the local pub to a fancy restaurant was the norm throughout the nineties in Dublin until the smoking ban was introduced across the country in 2004.

4. Collecting tokens

Cutting out tokens on the milk cartons was once of life's simple pleasures back in the 90s. Collecting up enough to pick out cheap household goods felt like the biggest accomplishment.

5. Eurovision champions

In the 90s, Ireland dominated the Eurovision song contest. In 1994, Riverdance was unveiled to the global stage. If you grew up in this decade you probably remember the great excitement of hosting the event three years in a row, from 1993 to 1995.

6. Football mania

When the Irish team saw their greatest success, Italia 90 will live on in our hearts forever. We only wish we could relive those magic moments again.

7. Clerys' clock

8. Holidays in Bray

We didn't trek too far outside of the capital for our summer holidays. Bray will always be a home away from home for Dubs.

9. The DART

Speaking of Bray, the DART only went from the Wicklow town to Howth during the 90s.

10. Spice Girls

The beloved girl band shot their video for 'Stop' on Carnew Street in Stoneybatter in 1998. Some fans in the area were lucky to catch a glimpse of the superstars.
