Bringing a welcome breath of fresh air to all soccer fans, Rematch sets itself apart from the competition via its fast-paced play style and focus on both flair and skill expression.
But as all players eventually come to know, behind every dominant performance or mouth-opening goal lies a good foundation. Here are 10 Rematch beginner tips to help you get the hang of the game and dominate the pitch from the first kick-off.
To Start, Pass the Ball

As the game’s prologue makes sure to emphasize, passing is the key to success in Rematch, be it by lobbing from the sides of the pitch in 3v3 or using one-two passes to get away from markers in 4v4 and 5v5. True to that, do not hesitate to make use of your open teammates when man-marked or to go for that extra pass when in 2v1 or open goal situations.
Don’t Hesitate To Volley

As one-touch volleys are by far the easiest shots to guide toward the net when unmarked, don’t hesitate to perform them following a well-made run or after spotting an out-of-position keeper. Once you master the above, make it a habit of also adding more elaborate effects to your shots. To easily perform one-touch volleys in Rematch, set your target and then hold the shooting input as the ball is coming your way. You can also perform perfect shots by hitting the shooting input at the moment the ball’s cursor turns green.
But Remember, That Is Not The Only Way To Score

Although shooting is the most reliable way to score when outside of the box, its quick animations make tap-ins and headers just as efficient when faced with an open goal or in 1v1 situations in the box. Just make sure to aim carefully to avoid sending the ball away by mistake. To perform both actions on Rematch, press the tap/pass input while either in control of, or as the ball is coming your way.
Get Used To Pushing the Ball

Like in real life, a well-made tap (or in this case, push) can help you hit the ground running from the second the ball touches your feet and be vital when looking to set up shots and create space/get past your markers with quick cuts. But make sure to use the latter carefully, as it is easy to get swept up in the moment after leaving a defender in the dust or on the ground.
Stay Communicative And Always Check the Mini-Map

Since Rematch keeps the camera focused on your player by default, staying communicative when both with and off the ball is key, especially when looking to make runs. Make sure to also always warn your squad when opponents are coming from behind. If your party is not keen on voice chatting or communicating, the minimap then becomes your guiding light, so keep tabs on it to know if you have the freedom to take your time or not.
Increase Your FOV And Disable Camera Shake

As the more of the pitch you can see, the better you can act, increasing your FOV all the way to 90 is a must in Rematch. The same can be said about disabling Camera Shake, which will allow you to be more precise and eliminate some common distractions. We also highly recommend that controller users increase their camera speed, as higher values will allow you to transition towards new targets in the blink of an eye and be a godsend when looking to keep tabs on your mark.
Use Extra Effort To Boost Your Chances

Mischaracterized as only a speed boost at first glance, Extra Effort packs way more of a punch by giving you an advantage in 50/50 situations. For example, sliding tackles imbued with it will always come out on top if faced with pushes or even other regular tackles. The state’s boost can also allow you to score more easily off fast breakthroughs, so save it for when it really matters. Remember, though, you will always leave extra effort at the moment you stop running/sliding.
Stay Composed When Defending

Overusing your sliding tackle is one of the easiest mistakes to make when starting in Rematch, especially if you have that well-known muscle memory. To avoid doing that and make sure you become just as steady on defense as on offence, prioritize performing well-timed standing tackles and keep your distance when faced with a dribbler. As we pointed out above, don’t hesitate to also use Extra Effort to catch players in breakouts or take the ball off their feet in do-or-die situations.
The Walls Are Your Best Friends, Use Them

Just like in Rocket League, the walls are the perfect relay partners in Rematch and can be used to go around markers and trick keepers for sure goals. To do the latter, shoot at the walls surrounding the opposing goal. That will then cause the ball to bounce back and either leave the keeper out of position or bait them into diving. In both cases, though, the net will be open for you or a teammate to score. This technique is perfect for pretty much any situation, and a sure way to stack up on assists.
Be Patient When Between The Sticks

As keepers are capable of stopping most shots if well-positioned in Rematch, make sure to only move after your opponent shoots and to keep an eye on the ball’s trajectory at all times. This is especially vital when faced with players looking to either perform lobs or apply the ”alley-oop” technique above.
Composure is also essential when playmaking from the back, so don’t launch the ball forward on every attempt. Instead, focus on finding open teammates to set up runs or provide pitch-wide assists. In 3v3, don’t be afraid to also advance through your half to free some space and work as a passing option during build-ups.
