We love them so much, we usually want to take them everywhere we go - even to the pub.
And if you're a dog owner looking to take your pet to a bar or restaurant in Swansea, then you might just be in luck.
We've put together a list in no particular order of some of the best dog-friendly bars and restaurants in Swansea that you just have to try.
1. Mumbles Pier
Mumbles Pier serves ice cream made especially for dogs. The feast is made without a host of ingredients that could disagree with dogs, including gluten, dairy, grains, colour, artificial sweeteners or taste enhancers.
And a discerning dog gets the chance to choose from three flavours; strawberry and apple; banana, apple and carrot; and honey and banana.
2. The Mermaid Cafe bar and restaurant
The Mermaid Cafe bar and restaurant in Mumbles has a dedicated area for owners to sit with their pets. Your dog can also help themselves to a drink and complimentary biscuit.
3. King's Head
The King's Head in Llangennith offer scoops of vanilla ice cream for dogs, there's also a pet friendly area in the pub where well behaved pets are welcome.
And if you fancied staying the night at the hotel, there's also dog friendly hotel rooms where your pet can stay.
4. Gower Inn
Gower Inn in Parkmill has an inside and outside area for dogs, there's even 'Doom Bark' available which is advertised as 0% alcohol and and 100% H2O to ensure that your pet is well hydrated. Owners can also buy sausages for their dogs if they are hungry.
Clare Harrison, general manager at the Gower Inn, said: "We pride ourselves on being a dog friendly pub where dogs can help themselves to water.
"We make sure that we go out of our way for dogs and we ensure that they are not forgotten, everyone at the pub is a dog lover."

5. The Reverend James
Just a few minutes' walk from Loughor Estuary, you can nip into The Reverend James for some well-deserved liquid refreshment after walking your dog, which is allowed in the bar area.
6. Zinco lounge/Croeso lounge
Croeso Lounge is located on the Mumbles Promenade while Zinco Lounge is right in the heart of the city centre.
On arrival you’ll be offered a bowl of water and a little Bonio biscuit for the dog (of course). You can even order a little sausage for the dog with your meals.
7. The Woodman
The Woodman in Mumbles Road has an area exclusive to dogs which includes a bowl of water, dog treats and tennis balls to play with. There's also a fire place so in the winter your pets can snuggle up and keep warm.
8. Cafe Valance
Cafe Valance is a dog friendly cafe with a view. Here, dogs can eat inside or outside on the front terrace, where the beautiful sea views of Mumbles can be spotted.
Dogs are welcomed with a little bowl of water.
9. The Ship Inn
This place is located in the heart of Port Eynon, Gower, a place to visit after walking your dog along the beach. Sandy, wet or dry they are allowed to the right of the bar in a lovely bright room.
10. Beaufort Arms, Mumbles
All shapes and sizes of dog are made welcome at the Beaufort Arms which is a village local with a traditional bar. They do ask for the owners to be as nice as the dogs, though, so remember to be on your best behaviour!
