
Sometimes comic book companies will publish odd character team-ups that don’t make sense but might make money. For example, Marvel and DC will publish two comics featuring Deadpool and Batman in September and November 2025. As a traditionalist comic book fan, it does not make much sense to me. Still, there seems to be a demographic for such crossover team-ups.
Odd Comic Book Character Team Ups
Did you know that there was a comic book team-up between Batman and Elmer Fudd back in 2017? Recently, Marvel and 20th Century Fox published a comic featuring The Predator and Black Panther. Odd and incongruent comic book character team-ups go back decades and are not new.

1. Predator Vs. Black Panther (2024)

You won’t find odder character team-ups than the Predator and Black Panther. This four-issue story is non-canonical and does not occur in the Marvel 616 universe. Wakanda is still an isolationist country. The Predators have a specific reason to visit Wakanda. However, T’Challa is deep in the jungle when the Predators arrive, creating a scenario for the perfect hunting grounds.

2. Batman/Elmer Fudd: The Deluxe Edition (2017)

Elmer Fudd is a former countryside hunter who becomes a hunter to make extra money. His former lover, Silver St. Cloud,, is killed. Fudd suspects the killer is Bugs, a humanized version of Bugs Bunny. However, the Wily Bugs convince Fudd that billionaire Bruce Wayne is the killer. After Fudd unsuccessfully tries to kill Wayne, the duo find clues to the real killer.
I know this sounds ridiculous. This story should not work, but it does.

3. Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong (2023)

The New Superman, David Corenswet, will fight a Kaiju in the July 2025 Superman reboot. However, Superman fought Godzilla in the comic books back in 2023.

Godzilla, Kong, Rodan, King Ghidorah, and Mothra battle the Justice League in a comic book series that drove fans into a geek frenzy back in 2023. 4. Flash Gordon: Kings Cross (2017)

Kings Cross is a comic book series that features pulp comic era character team-ups. Ming the Merciless wants to conquer Earth. The Mongoian continent acts as a home base for Ming, his minions, and the monsters he unleashes on the world.
Flash Gordon, Dr. Zarkov, The Phantom, Mandrake the Magician, Prince Valiant, and Jungle Jim all unite to battle Ming as the Kings Cross. Consider them the pulp comic era version of the Avengers.

9. Booster Gold/The Flintstones Special (2017)

In the 25th century, Booster Gold’s Earth is dying from pollution and climate change. Additionally, reptillina aliens are hell bent on taking over the planet as the humans die out. Booster learns that the answer to this problem might be in the past, so he travels to the era of the Flintstones and enlists Fred and Barney to help him out.
This is one of the oddest character team-ups, but the story is fun.

10. DC Universe Vs. Masters of the Universe (2013)

Skeletor finds a way to travel to the Earth of DC Comics. He starts a plan to siphon all of the magic energy from the planet. However, Skeletor may be controlled by someone else! Meanwhile, He-Man and his allies follow Skeletor and accidentally come into conflict with the Justice League. Then, the two groups unite forces to stop Skeletor.

Odd and Entertaining Team Ups
Comic books are not dying out yet, but they are not as profitable as they were in the past. So, comic book publishers will also try new marketing methods in desperate times. Comic books featuring team-ups between characters that seem odd are just a marketing ploy.
Such stories are non-canonical; no matter how high the stakes are in the story, the status quo will always revert after it is over. So, these stories are fun to read and a great way to see your favorite characters in new situations.
