10 more patients die in North East hospitals after contracting coronavirus

Ten more people have died in North East hospitals after contracting coronavirus.

A total of 207 deaths were reported by NHS England on Saturday afternoon, taking the total number of Covid-19-related fatalities in England hospitals to 22,972.

Of theses, 47 occurred on May 8, 90 were confirmed on May 7 and 23 were reported on May 6.

The figures also show 23 of the new deaths took place between May 1 and May 5, 19 took place in April, while the remaining five occurred in March, with the earliest new death taking place on March 12.

In the North East, Northumbria reported the most fatalities with four while there were three in County Durham and Darlington.

Meanwhile, UK airlines have been told that they would have to quarantine all air passengers who fly into the UK from the end of the month.

It comes just a day before Boris Johnson is due to reveal the changes that will be made to the current lockdown restrictions.
