‘10 minutes later, I hear a knock at my door’: Woman says Uber Eats driver refused to leave while she was taking a shower. Then she had to get the concierge involved

Ordering delivery is one of life’s simple, modern pleasures. In the past, your options were limited to places that offered delivery. Thanks to services like Uber Eats, today your choices are limitless.

One woman might not choose that particular service in the future, however. Lexie (@alexisisabelle3) says that her most recent experience with Uber Eats left her “terrified.”

In a TikTok about the incident, Lexie accuses her delivery driver of ignoring her instructions and behaving in a manner that would frighten most people, especially women who live alone like her.

As of Thursday afternoon, her post has 21,300 views and dozens of comments.

What happened?

Lexie says she decided to order a pizza one night. She placed the order, then got in the shower.

Her instructions are to leave Uber Eats orders at the door, she says, so she didn’t worry about the food arriving while she was bathing.

Next thing she knew, Lexie says someone started banging on her door.

“I never answer my door because I don’t want people to know what apartment I live in,” she says in the TikTok.

She claims the banging went on for 10 minutes and she couldn’t understand why the driver, a man, wouldn’t leave.

“I’m like, ‘What do you want? The food’s paid for. You have a tip. What is your issue?'” Lexie says.

Finally, she says the Uber Eats driver left—after she screamed through the door for him to leave her pizza.

Several minutes later, she says he came back and started banging again. So she called the apartment concierge. She says the driver told them they’d left the wrong order the first time.

“That’s weird. I don’t like that,” she says.

The concierge promised to text her when the Uber Eats driver left. After several minutes, the knocking finally stopped.

Lexie claims the concierge never texted, so she stayed inside, afraid to get her food or leave the apartment. She also says the driver failed to contact her through the app, like they’re supposed to.

“I was terrified. Like I was genuinely uncomfortable to even open my door to leave an hour-and-a-half later,” she says.

Now she wants Uber Eats to take note

“Uber Eats do better. Because this is unacceptable,” she says. Lexie adds that the company shouldn’t “send a man to basically borderline harass” a woman who lives alone.

People in the comments agreed. Many women urged Lexie to change her screen name to something androgynous or a man’s name.

“When I used Door Dash, I used a male name. Never had an issue again,” wrote one.

Uber Eats didn’t respond to an email sent Thursday afternoon. Lexie didn’t immediately reply to a direct message sent via TikTok.
