10 hours of torrential rain set to hammer Merseyside as Met Office issues weather warning

Merseyside is due to be hammered by torrential rain following yesterday's glorious sunshine.

Temperatures reached a balmy 23C as the region was basked in a spate of warm weather.

But that soon changed as the Met Office issued a yellow warning for rain covering all of Merseyside .

The region will be battered by 11 more hours of heavy rain today, as the Met Office warn of potential flooding, lightning and travel disruption.

Forecasters said: "Early showery rain may clear for a time, before a spell of more persistent rain arrives, this could be heavy at times and may give the odd rumble of thunder."

Despite the damp weather, the Met Office warned that temperatures could reach a maximum of 21C.

They continued: "Today's rain should move away this evening, leaving a largely dry night with some clear spells, but also patchy low cloud and fog."

Merseyside's yellow weather warning started at 12.15am today and will finish at 8pm.

The warning is not confined just confined to  Merseyside  but the entire west of  England  is affected with parts of London too.

This will be the beginning of a long stretch of wet weather which will last at least until the end of next week.
