10 Great Movies Coming To Netflix’s Stacked New Lineup In October

September was a fantastic month for new movies on Netflix NFLX . Grease, Pineapple Express, Magic Mike, the Back to the Future trilogy—the list goes on and on. But now we have a new month, which means a brand new slate of movies to choose from on the world’s most viral streaming platform.

And trust me: October will not disappoint. There are several dozen movies to choose from, and the lineup is every bit as stacked as it was in September.

But how to choose between all of those great new options? Hopefully, this list can help. Here are ten great movies heading Netflix’s way on Thursday. And at the end of the article, you’ll find a list of every new movie coming to Netflix on October 1.

Along Came a Spider

Along Came a Spider was pretty popular back in 2001, but this psychological thriller hasn’t quite maintained its gripped on the moviegoing public since. Still, this Morgan Freeman vehicle is full of great moments and showcases a killer mystery at its center. Along Came a Spider is actually the second time Freeman inhabits the Alex Cross role, as the film is a sequel to Kiss the Girls. In this 2001 film, Freeman’s character takes on a methodical predator named Gary Soneji.

Basic Instinct

There might be nothing better than a Paul Verhoeven movie from the ‘90s. And Basic Instinct owns all of the classic Verhoeven ingredients: it’s enthralling, it’s mysterious, it’s flamboyant, it’s sexy—the list goes on. This entertaining thriller follows the beautiful crime novelist Catherine Tramell (played by Sharon Stone), who becomes the main suspect in a murder case. She is being investigated by Nick Curran (played by Michael Douglas), who begins to fall for Catherine.

Fargo

Back in 1996, Joel and Ethan Coen could truly do no wrong. With movies like Raising Arizona and Blood Simple in their back pockets and films like The Big Lebowski and O Brother, Where Art Thou? on the horizon, the Coen brothers were primed for their first Oscar nomination and subsequent win with Fargo. This cult favorite follows several different parties mixed up in a kidnapping gone wrong. Fargo stars Frances McDormand, William H. Macy, Steve Buscemi, Harve Presnell and Peter Stormare.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past

Matthew McConaughey has gone through several different phases during his career. And while many people may remember and respect his dramatic award-winning roles the most, I think his romantic comedy projects have a lot to offer—and that includes Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. In this film, McConaughey plays Connor Mead, a celebrity photographer who can’t seem to settle down with a woman. He is then sucked into a Christmas Carol-esque scenario where he must reckon with the spirits of his past abandoned lovers.

Gran Torino

At the ripe age of 90 in the year 2020, it’s hard to believe that Clint Eastwood still has the energy to be directing and starring in movies. Well, it even felt that way back in 2008 when Eastwood starred as Korean War veteran Walt Kowalski in Gran Torino. This dramatic thriller follows Walt, who lives alone and does nothing but drink beer and harass his neighbors. However, Walt develops an unlikely friendship with a local teenager, which leads him to take on a local band of gangbangers.

Her

Spike Jonze’s career is filled with absolute gems that veer into strange, sci-fi-ish territory. Movies like Being John Malkovich, Adaptation and Where the Wild Things Are all own loyal followings—but many believe Jonze reached his full potential with Her back in 2013. This romantic sci-fi venture follows Theodore (played by Joaquin Phoenix), a recent divorcée who starts a relationship with an operating system that was designed to form its own personality.

Human Nature

Michel Gondry would find lots of success during the 2000s with movies like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Science of Sleep and Be Kind Rewind. But before all those films, he truly kickstarted his career with the strange and wonderful Human Nature. The movie centers on a couple of scientists (played by Tim Robbins and Patricia Arquette) who train a wild man they discover (played by Rhys Ifans) in the ways of their world.

I’m Leaving Now

There aren’t many documentaries heading Netflix’s way in October. But if you’re looking for a real-life story that’s both gripping and revealing, then you should definitely check out I’m Leaving Now. The movie follows Felipe, who has spent the last 16 years of his life working low-wage jobs and sending money back to his family in Mexico. And just when he decides to return home, he learns that his family has squandered the money.

Stranger Than Fiction

Will Ferrell is obviously known for his comedic roles in movies like Anchorman, Old School and Step Brothers. But Ferrell has also tried his hands at several dramatic roles—and his best performance may have come in the form of Stranger Than Fiction. This delightful fantasy movie stars Ferrell as an IRS auditor named Harold Crick, who unexpectedly becomes a character in a novel. He hears the writer Karen Eiffel in his head as she writes the book—and quickly learns that she plans to kill him.

Troy

Sword-and-sandal movies were all the rage back in the late 1990s and early 2000s—and perhaps no movie did it better than Troy in 2004. An adaptation of Homer’s epic Iliad, Troy details the assault on the city of Troy by the united Greek forces. This classic story stars Brad Pitt as Achilles, Eric Bana as Hector, Orlando Bloom as Paris, Diane Kruger as Helen, Brian Cox as Agamemnon and Sean Bean as Odysseus.
