10 Eagles with the biggest cap numbers for 2020 NFL season

The Philadelphia Eagles entered the start of free agency with around $44 million in cap space, and with the several huge contracts on the horizon for the coming season and the trade for Darius Slay, it’ll be interesting to see what the future holds for several big named veterans.

Carson Wentz will be playing on the last year of his rookie deal and the Birds will likely have a decision on Fletcher Cox, whose cap number continues to rise with each passing day.

With the Eagles in the midst of their retool and youth movement, here’s a look at the ten biggest cap numbers for this upcoming season via Over The Cap.

***

1) Fletcher Cox $22.8M

The Eagles signed Cox to a 6 year, $102.6 million extensions in 2016 and although his play has dipped some, he’s still one of the top-2 defensive tackles in the game and warrants his salary.  The 2020 season will be Cox’s last with guaranteed money and it’ll be a situation to watch.

2) Carson Wentz $18.7M

Wentz is in the final year of his rookie deal and then his $128 million extension kicks in next year. Part of the Eagles retool is getting talented young players on the cheap, to put around Wentz.

3) Lane Johnson $15.9M

Like Brooks, Johnson signed a new deal last season that made him among the highest-paid tackles in the NFL.

4) Alshon Jeffery $15.4M

Jeffery signed a four year, $52.25 million contract extension with the Eagles in 2017, and this past September, the wideout restructured his contract, turning his 2019 salary into a signing bonus, while his 2020 salary for this upcoming season was guaranteed.

There’s been some talk of the Eagles moving on from Jeffery and that’ll cost the team dead money depending on if and when the move is made.

5) Zach Ertz $12.5M

Ertz reportedly turned down an extension recently that would have put him on par with Hunter Henry. One of the NFL’s top tight ends, Ertz will likely look to get paid like a wide receiver, although he still has two years left on his deal.

6) Darius Slay $10.5M

Slay was already among the NFL’s highest-paid at his position, but after his trade to the Eagles and a contract extension, he’s now the NFL’s highest-paid cornerback.

7) DeSean Jackson $8.6M

After injury-plagued 2019 season that saw Jackson play about a game and a half total, the veteran receiver will return to the Eagles looking for vengeance in 2020.

Jackson is on the books for $8.6 million after signing a three-year extension upon returning to the Eagles.

8) Brandon Brooks $7.7M

Brooks signed a massive extension last season, making him one of the NFL’s highest-paid linemen regardless of position.

9) Jason Kelce $7.4M

Kelce signed an extension last offseason and the Eagles can exercise a $7.5 million option for the 2021 league year in the early part of the 2020 league year.

10) Brandon Graham $6.2M

The veteran pass rusher is returning to the Eagles after signing a new deal last offseason during the free agency period.

Graham will count $6.2 million on the books.
