10 Downing Street has been ranked the most statistically beautiful official residence in the world, with The Lodge just scraping into the top 15.

The Lodge came in as the 13th most attractive official residence, beating its counterparts in Taiwan and Japan - all according to a theoretical calculation of beauty.

The mortgage experts at Uswitch.com/mortgages were curious to uncover the most scientifically beautiful official residents according to the golden ratio.

The height and width of each building's main facade were measured using Google Earth Pro advanced measuring in 3D. The ratio of width to height was compared to the golden ratio dimensions, which are 1:1.61803398875.

10 Downing Street came out top, followed by the Jubilee House in Ghana and the Royal Palace of Amsterdam. The White House finished fifth.
