10 Discontinued Grocery Store Snacks From The ’90s We’re Begging To Come Back

If you grew up in the 1990s, you remember when grocery store aisles were a playground of colorful packaging, wild flavors, and gimmicky snacks that somehow tasted better because they were fun. From neon-colored drinks to cookies shaped like your favorite cartoon characters, the ’90s were a golden age of childhood snacking. Sadly, many of those nostalgic favorites have disappeared, leaving only memories—and the occasional eBay listing. While new snacks come and go, these 10 discontinued gems still hold a special place in our hearts (and stomachs).

1. Dunkaroos

The ultimate lunchbox power move, Dunkaroos combined vanilla cookies with creamy, rainbow-flecked frosting. Every kid knew the ritual: dunk, swirl, and savor. When General Mills discontinued them in 2012, an entire generation mourned. Thankfully, they made a limited comeback in 2020, but many fans say the flavor isn’t quite the same. We’re still hoping for the full ’90s recipe revival, complete with that unmistakable kangaroo mascot, Duncan.

2. Planters Cheez Balls

These bright orange, perfectly crunchy cheese spheres were a snack-time staple for anyone who preferred their fingers permanently dusted in neon powder. Planters discontinued them in the mid-2000s, leaving fans heartbroken. After a brief return in 2018, they vanished again from most shelves. No current cheese puff has replicated their light, tangy crunch. One thing’s for sure—every ’90s kid remembers that iconic blue canister.

3. Oreo O’s Cereal

Breakfast or dessert? Back in the day, Oreo O’s made mornings feel like a sugar-fueled holiday. The chocolatey loops and sweet crème coating captured the magic of the cookie in cereal form. When production stopped in 2007, fans practically organized search parties. While Post has re-released it a few times since, it’s never stayed on shelves long enough to satisfy our ongoing craving for nostalgic crunch.

4. Butterfinger BB’s

Before fun-size bars ruled Halloween, Butterfinger BB’s were the king of bite-sized candy. These crunchy, peanut-buttery orbs were perfect for movie nights or sneaking into your backpack between classes. They melted quickly, sure—but that was part of the charm. They disappeared in 2006, leaving snack lovers devastated. Even though Butterfinger Bites tried to fill the gap, nothing ever captured that same BB magic.

5. 3D Doritos

Every ’90s lunchroom had one kid who brought a bag of 3D Doritos—and instantly became the most popular person at the table. These puffed triangles had all the bold flavor of traditional Doritos but with a satisfying, airy crunch. Despite their cult following, they vanished in the early 2000s. They’ve made a few limited comebacks, but not enough to scratch the itch for nostalgia. The dream of seeing 3D Doritos in every grocery store snack aisle lives on.

6. Kudos Granola Bars

Technically a “granola bar,” Kudos felt more like a candy bar you could justify eating for lunch. Coated in milk chocolate with fun flavors like Snickers and M&M’s, they were the perfect balance of sweet and snackable. They quietly disappeared from shelves sometime after 2010, but many fans never got the memo until years later. Today’s protein and energy bars just don’t have the same fun-factor. Kudos were proof that even healthy snacks could taste like dessert.

7. Squeeze-Its

Nothing said ’90s childhood like twisting the cap off a plastic Squeeze-It bottle filled with liquid sugar. With flavors like Chucklin’ Cherry and Silly Billy Strawberry, they turned hydration into a party. Parents loved them for their portability, and kids loved the wild colors and cartoon mascots. They were discontinued in the early 2000s, leaving a void in the lunchbox drink category. We’d trade any modern sports drink for one more squeeze of that sugary nostalgia.

8. Keebler Magic Middles

These cookie treasures had a golden, buttery exterior with a surprise chocolate or peanut butter filling. Each bite was like unwrapping a tiny dessert secret. They were discontinued in the early 2000s, much to the disappointment of their loyal fans. The Keebler elves have made countless cookies since, but none quite measure up. Magic Middles deserve a comeback just for the nostalgia factor alone.

9. Jell-O Pudding Pops

Invented in the 1980s but beloved well into the ’90s, Jell-O Pudding Pops were the perfect frozen treat—creamy, chocolatey, and undeniably addicting. They somehow managed to be both rich and refreshing at the same time. Sadly, they were discontinued in 2004 due to low sales, despite their loyal fanbase. Every attempt to replicate them since has fallen short. If you ever had one on a hot summer day, you know exactly why we want them back.

10. Yogos

These tiny yogurt-covered fruit snacks hit grocery store shelves in the mid-2000s but carried the same whimsical energy as ’90s treats. They were chewy, colorful, and just the right mix of tangy and sweet. When Kellogg’s discontinued them in 2010, it left a generation of snackers confused and craving. Their unique flavor and fun texture have never been duplicated successfully. If Yogos ever returned, they’d likely sell out in minutes.

Snacks Were More Than Food—They Were Memories

The ’90s were about more than just great snacks—they were about joy, creativity, and a sense of fun that’s hard to find in today’s health-conscious aisles. These discontinued treats remind us of simpler times, when a snack could brighten an entire afternoon. While some have briefly resurfaced, none have fully reclaimed their original glory. Maybe one day brands will realize what we already know: nostalgia tastes better than any new flavor ever could. Until then, we’ll just keep reminiscing—and snacking on memories.

Which of these discontinued snacks do you miss the most? Or is there another ’90s treat you’d love to see back on shelves? Share your favorites in the comments below!
