10 crore shopping mart of Mukhtar associate demolished in Mau

VARANASI: The police bulldozed the four-storied City Mega Mart owned by Umesh Singh, a close associate of mafia don-turned MLA Mukhtar Ansari and a member of his IS-191 gang in Mau district on Saturday. The value of the property is estimated at Rs. 10 crores, officials said.

“The volume of loss caused to the economic empire of Mukhtar has now gone above Rs 365 crores,” said ADG Varanasi zone Brij Bhushan.

According to him, the property was razed under the drive against organised criminals. Umesh Singh, a coal mafia and owner of Tridev Group, is also a co-accused in Manna Singh murder case. He had illegally constructed the mega mart in Bhiti locality of Kotwali area of Mau.

Under the ongoing action to destroy the economic empire of mafia gangs, police have already targeted illegal earnings, including extortion, monopoly in fish trade, operating slaughter houses, taxi stands, illegally grabbed land, constructions made with illegally earned money and others in several east UP districts.
