10 bubble players likely to make Eagles’ 53-man roster

Philadelphia has been on a break for over a month, and they’ll soon reconvene for training camp on July 25.

We recently revealed a pre-training camp edition of our 53-man roster prediction, with a few surprises and upsets at crucial positions.

With training camp fast approaching, we’re previewing 10 players on the roster bubble likely to make the team.

NFL teams will often keep five running backs on the roster if each guy is talented, and 2023 certainly offers a committee approach to maintaining a competitive dynamic.

Trey Sermon or Boston Scott would typically be the odd man out in such a deep rotation.

Still, both D’Andre Swift and Rashaad Penny have been injury-prone early in their careers, opening a window for the former Ohio State running back to make the roster.

Covey will be a fixture on the Eagles’ special teams unit, but will he make the 53-man roster or start the season getting elevated from the practice squad?

Opeta offers versatility along the Eagles offensive line, and he’s familiar with the system.

Johnson offers size and physicality at the offensive tackle spot, and could replace Andre Dillard as the backup to Jordan Mailata.

When healthy, Barnett is solid against the run, and can rush the passer.

Moro Ojomo

As a seventh-round pick, Ojomo’s roster status isn’t guaranteed, but he’s a versatile rookie who should flash potential.

The emerging linebacker improved the Eagles special teams in 2022, and after a solid offseason program, he’s a player to watch.

Mekhi Garner

Garner is a long and physical cornerback that can play in both man and zone coverages but needs to play press coverage to flourish truly. Standing 6-2/ 220 pounds, a switch to safety or the STAR position could help elevate the former LSU defensive back to a roster spot.

K'Von Wallace

Wallace is entering year No. 4 and will look to finally cement a role in the Eagles’ defensive back rotation. After losing snaps to Reed Blankenship in 2022, Wallace is the longest-tenured safety on the team, and a breakout season could have him on many most improved lists. The former Clemson star will enter the final year of his contract and battle Blankenship, Sydney Brown, Justin Evans, and Terrell Edmunds for playing time.
