10. Akron at Bowling Green
LINE: Bowling Green -4.5, o/u: 49.5
POINT TOTAL PICK: Under
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
Beware of the chance that these two are so equally awful at this college football thing that they finally start beating up on someone their own respective sizes. Akron’s losses to UMass and Central Michigan blew past 50 points, but the Zip offense has scores three points in the last three games – total. Bowling Green hasn’t scored more than 20 on anyone but Morgan State. Don’t go big, but take the chance that both Os are just that bad.
9. SMU at Memphis
LINE: Memphis -6, o/u: 71.5
POINT TOTAL PICK: Over
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
This probably isn’t on here if it wasn’t the ABC primetime game, but if you’re watching, and this is a firefight, you don’t want to miss out on the fun. There’s nothing fun about cheering for the under, but the 71.5 is a massive total – usually, stay away screaming from that. However, SMU has put up 41 points or more in six of the eight games, and was in the 30s in the other two. Memphis has scored 42 points or more six of its last seven games.
8. Nebraska at Purdue
LINE: Nebraska -3.5, o/u: 58
POINT TOTAL PICK: Over
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
Just how much will it matter that Adrian Martinez is back for the Nebraska offense? You’re not asking for the world here considering the two defenses are just okay. Purdue’s defense has mostly been helped by bad weather, but it should get hit for about 30 points, and Nebraska’s offense – even when it was down – put up 31 on Indiana last week.
7. Florida Atlantic at WKU
LINE: WKU -1.5, o/u: 51.5
POINT TOTAL PICK: Under
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
This is all about the WKU defense. The Hilltoppers haven’t played a game in the 50s over the last five, and almost all have been way, way under. The D has allowed 14 points or fewer in five of the eight games, but is the FAU offense about to go off? It’s been hanging around the 40s with everything humming, but again, you’re relying on WKU at home to bring the defensive side in a low-scoring fight.

6. Mississippi State at Arkansas
LINE: Mississippi State -7.5, o/u: 58.5
POINT TOTAL PICK: Under
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
Should you be worried that Mississippi State and Texas A&M combined for 79 points last week? A little, but the Bulldog O has bee hit-or-miss, stumbling against Tennessee and LSU in a run of five straight games without scoring more than 28. Arkansas is happy to help, failing to score more than 27 on anyone by Colorado State. The Hogs will do their part by scoring in the low 20s or under.
NEXT: The Top Five
5. Vanderbilt at South Carolina
LINE: South Carolina -15.5, o/u: 51.5
POINT TOTAL PICK: Under
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
You’re nervous about going under on a lowish 51.5 total? You should be, considering the last three South Carolina games have blown past that. However, This should be a little bit tighter, and the Gamecock offense hasn’t hit more than 27 all year on anyone but Charleston Southern.
Vanderbilt? None of its last four games have come within miles of 52 points, scoring 24 points or fewer on the year against everyone but LSU.
Whether it’s against Missouri, UNLV, Ole Miss, Northern Illinois, and on and on, the Commodores just don’t have enough of an offense to be concerned. The defense isn’t great, but it’s just good enough to keep South Carolina from gong off into the 40s.
NEXT: Big Ten Badness, Part 1
4. Rutgers at Illinois
LINE: Illinois -20.5, o/u: 49
POINT TOTAL PICK: Under
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
Don’t get too comfortable with the 44-34 Rutgers win over Liberty last week. Before that, the Scarlet Knights managed to score a grand total of 14 points in its previous four games, and 30 in its previous six.
The Illinois defense isn’t going to make anyone forget about what the New England Patriots are doing, but it was able to hold Wisconsin to 23 points and Purdue to just six.
A switch appears to have been flipped.
Meanwhile, the Illini offense hasn’t scored more than 25 points in any of the last four games, and hasn’t scored more than 42 on the year. Even if it busts out and scores 45, there’s a chance Rutgers doesn’t come up with more than a field goal.
Last week was an aberration for Rutgers considering who it played. Which means …
NEXT: Speaking of which …
3. Liberty at UMass
LINE: Liberty -23.5, o/u: 69
POINT TOTAL PICK: Over
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
Start with this. Rutgers scored 14 points in four games, and then exploded for 44 on the Liberty defense.
Rutgers really, really, really can’t score.
Meanwhile, the Flames are rolling on offense, putting up 34 on the Scarlet Knights after hanging 59 on Maine.
Is there anything to be worried about with the 33 combined points in the New Mexico State game or the 27 against New Mexico? Yeah … these Flames burned this piece twice.
But that’s where the UMass defense comes in.
The Minutemen are allowing well over 50 points per game. Only Akron – the worst team in college football – scored fewer than 44 on this team, and it put up 29.
Last week against another defensively challenged team, UMass put up 35 on UConn with the total getting to 91. The week before that, Louisiana Tech scored 69 on its own.
NEXT: Big Ten Badness, Part 2
2. Northwestern at Indiana
LINE: Indiana -10, o/u: 43.5
POINT TOTAL PICK: Under
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
Who the hell goes under on a 43.5 point total?
Northwestern’s offense isn’t just bad, it’s at a whole other level of miserable no matter who it’s facing.
To be somewhat fair, it’s had to play a slew of killer defenses. It scored just three against Ohio State, was shut out last week by Iowa, scored, 15 against Wisconsin and …

Ten on Nebraska? No, that’s not okay. The Husker defense is too awful to score just ten on it. Five of the seven Wildcat games this year have gone under the 44, but Indiana has to do its part.
The Hoosiers have been hanging up 30+ points with regularity – only Ohio State has held the O to under 31 – but give the Northwestern defense a little bit of credit. It’s managing to keep scores low and games close.
The IU D isn’t a rock, but it’s not going to get hit all that hard by a Northwestern offense that can’t throw the forward pass without a whole slew of bad things going wrong.
NEXT: This might be the most fun American Athletic Conference game of the day
1. Tulsa at Tulane
LINE: Tulane -10.5, o/u: 60
POINT TOTAL PICK: Over
– Bet on this, BetMGM latest line
SMU vs. Memphis is so basic.
If you want to get on board with the the American Athletic Conference game the cool kids are all into, it’s going to be this one between two teams that should trade a few haymakers.
Tulane was slowed down by Memphis on the road, but other than that 47-17 loss – which went over 60, by the way – and the 24-6 loss to Auburn, the offense has ripped up everyone else for 38 points or more.
It might not get up into the 40s like it did against Army or UConn, but it has the capability of putting points on the board in a hurry.
If you’re looking to get in on sports betting action this weekend, be sure to sign up with BetMGM to take part in any of these games or other action on the schedule.
Tulsa’s offense fell flat against Navy and Cincinnati, but it came back roaring last week in the near-miss 42-41 loss to Memphis. The hope here is that the defense keeps having problems after allowing 40 points or more in four of its last six games.
Overall, the 60 just isn’t that huge a number. As long as the Golden Hurricane O can get at least 14 points on the board early, you’ll get there.
