1. Kingpin
Wilson Fisk is a New York City-based gangster known for his influence as a crime lord and violent reputation. The character was created as a Spider-Man villain and debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #50 in 1967.
Although he looks morbidly obese, Fisk has the stamina and athletic abilities of a sumo fighter and keeps himself in peak physical fitness. He is one of the most feared comic book characters without superpowers. Modern audiences and comic book readers now know him as a Daredevil villain, especially as portrayed by Vincent D’onofrio in the MCU.
2. Nick Fury
Modern audiences know that Samuel L. Jackson has been Nick Fury in the MCU since 2008, but that was not always the case. Jackson is portraying a race-bent version of a character that debuted decades ago.
Nick Fury first appeared in Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos #1 back in 1963. 4. Lois Lane
Lois Lane made her first appearance in Action Comics #1 in 1938 alongside Superman. She is probably one of the most famous and well-known female comic book characters without superpowers. Lois Lane is an award-winning journalist, writer, and adventurer who does not back down from danger.
She is also the wife of Clark Kent and the mother of their son, Jon. Although she has no powers, she has power as Superman’s wife, best friend, confidente, and the human anchor to help him adjust to life on Earth. Modern Superman would not be Superman without Lois Lane.
5. The Punisher
Frank Castle is a war veteran who witnessed the death of his family at the hands of the mob after witnessing a crime. Castle shed his humanity and became a serial killer of criminals, an apex vigilante determined to rid the world of every last criminal.
He first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #129 in 1974. Labeled an antihero, he is one of the most feared comic book characters without superpowers due to his fanatical one-man war against crime.
6. Bolivar Trask
Bolivar Trask is an anthropologist, academic genius, and businessman who wanted to find a way to rid the world of mutants utilizing technology. Trask sired two children who became mutants, a shameful burden to him that strengthened his resolve.
Trask invented and built the sentinels, powerful robots designed to hunt down and eradicate mutants. The character debuted in Uncanny X-Men #14 in 1965. Peter Dinklage portrayed the character in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.
7. Lex Luthor
Lex Luthor is one of the most powerful comic book characters without superpowers. It’s weird when you think about it. He’s the arch-enemy of Superman, an alien with God-like powers. Luthor made his first appearance in Action Comics #23 in 1940.
Luthor was first portrayed as an egotistical and arrogant mad scientist. He was later portrayed as a genius, billionaire corporate titan with global influence. Additionally, Luthor became a narcissistic human who can’t stand to live on a planet where Superman, not himself, is the most powerful being.
Read John Byrne’s six-issue Man of Steel miniseries from 1986. That is the series where Byrne would reimagine Luthor as an egocentric businessman.
8. Rorschach
Walter Kovacs is the moral absolutist vigilante in the legendary 1986 comic book series Watchmen and first appeared in the first issue. Korvacs fights crime as the vigilante Rorschach with a morally rigid, no-nonsense mindset. To Rorschach, right is right, wrong is wrong, and there is no such thing as a grey area.
All evil must be punished, no matter the consequence. Rorschach is the main narrator and one of the main protagonists of the story. Jackie Earle Haley portrayed the character in the 2009 film adaptation. Rorschach is one of the most creepy and memorable characters in Watchmen and he has no superpowers.
9. William Stryker
William Stryker is a reverend and military veteran who becomes overcome with racist hatred for mutants after his infant son, Jason, develops mutant abilities. He is one of the most dangerous comic book characters without superpowers.
He started a fanatical, paramilitary, and religious movement based on hating and eradicating mutants from the world. Stryker creates The Purifiers, a Christian paramilitary force waging a holy war against mutants. Stryker first appeared in the 1982 X-Men graphic novel, God Loves, Man Kills. Actors Brian Cox, Danny Huston, and Josh Helman portrayed the character in several X-Men films.
10. Batman
In comic book circles, Batman is more popular than Superman. Fans enjoy more story conflict in stories featuring a powerless, billionaire vigilante dressed as a bat than a God-like being with few vulnerabilities.
Batman is a martial arts expert, possesses a genius intellect, is a master strategist, and always keeps his body in peak physical condition. He’s trained his mind and body to be prepared for almost any contingency when fighting crime. Batman made his debut in Detective Comics #27 in 1939.
