10. Pitt at Florida State

LINE: Florida State -2.5
ATS PICK: Pitt
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

This is all about the Pitt defensive front. It’s been a rough run for the Panthers over the last few games in blowout losses to Miami and Notre Dame, but Florida State isn’t in the same world as those two – coming off a 48-16 loss to Louisville – with an improved, but still shaky offensive line.

The Panther D line should live in the Seminole backfield, and all the O needs is for QB Joey Yellen to be merely okay. One note: check the last-second status of QB Kenny Pickett. He’s doubtful on a bum ankle, but there was some thought this week that he could go. If he’s playing, this becomes a pick game.

Bet $1 on the Notre Dame money line, WIN an additional $100 (in free bets) if Notre Dame scores a touchdown this weekend.

9. Arizona State at USC

LINE: USC -11
ATS PICK: Arizona State
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

There are way too many funky parts to this game.

What have we learned about the bizarre 2020 college football season? You’re never crazy to assume super-crazy in the season-openers – we just don’t know what these teams are quite yet.

Arizona State should be good enough all around to at least provide a push, Herm Edwards’ Sun Devils is 1-1 against the Trojans and kept last year’s loss close, and there’s the 9:00 am start time and 4:30 wake-up call to get ready.

USC should win, but -11 is a bit much.

8. Minnesota at Illinois

LINE: Minnesota -7
ATS PICK: Minnesota
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

You owe us, Gophers.

We went in so hard with you against Maryland last week, and it was going just fine until the O stopped scoring the D made the Terps look like Alabama.

The line started out at -9 and is down to -7 against an Illinois team that’s starting former fourth-string QB Coran Taylor and has been picked clean through the air in the first two games.

Minnesota has too many great parts to the passing game to not blow up. More than that, it’s too good to be 0-2, much less 0-3.

7. ULM at Georgia State

LINE: Georgia State -19
ATS PICK: Georgia State
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

Georgia State just got whacked 51-0 by Coastal Carolina, but the offense was great in the first four games against better teams than ULM. Just about every team is better than ULM.

The Warhawks aren’t scoring enough with 17 points or fewer in every game but the 35-30 loss to Georgia Southern. They held the score relatively low in the 31-13 loss to Appalachian State, but they’re about to be in for a long day against a Panther team that should be a whole lot sharper.

6. Kansas at Oklahoma

LINE: Oklahoma -38
ATS PICK: Oklahoma
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

It’s policy here to never give up a ton of points to anyone – too many things can go wrong to get the number, and it’s always nice to walk into a stadium up, say, 38-0 – but Kansas keeps jumping over the bar again and again.

Iowa State put up 52 on the Jayhawks. Kansas State hung up 55, Oklahoma State 47, and a relatively punchless Baylor team scored 47.

Oklahoma is only getting 38? The Sooners put up 48 points against Texas Tech before halftime last week – they’re rolling now.

5. Houston at Cincinnati

LINE: Cincinnati -13
ATS PICK: Cincinnati
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

What about whacking around SMU 42-13 and Memphis by 39 didn’t you like?

Cincinnati is 5-0 with all five wins by 14 points or more, and now you’re giving away just 13 to Houston.

It’s hardly a crazy-off line – this is a good enough Cougar team to put up a fight – but until the Bearcat streak stops, you keep on riding.

Houston is fine. It rolled past Tulane and Navy, but got rocked by BYU by 17 and rolled by UCF by 23 – Cincinnati is at least as good, if not better, than BYU and UCF.

Houston’s run defense has allowed progressively more yards each week, including 353 against UCF last week. The Cincinnati line is as good as any the Cougars have faced, and the ground game has cranked up 744 yards and ten touchdowns over the last three games.

And now the Bearcats are at home.

NEXT: Vanderbilt at Mississippi State

4. Vanderbilt at Mississippi State

LINE: Mississippi State -19
ATS PICK: Vanderbilt
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

This doesn’t seem like it should make any sense from any standpoint, except for one thing …

Mississippi State has sort of stopped the whole scoring thing.

Mike Leach’s team is favored by 19 points against a Vanderbilt team that managed just 21 points against Ole Miss in a blowout loss last week. If your job was to try to scoring fewer than three touchdowns against that Rebel D, you couldn’t do it.

Vanderbilt scored a grand total of 26 points in the other three games, and the defense hasn’t been anything special.

However, again, Mississippi State is a 19-point favorite that scored a total of 16 points over the last three games.

The Bulldogs should be able to roll through the Commodores, but until they show any semblance of this offense working, take the chance it’s still going to have issues.

NEXT: New Mexico at Hawaii

3. New Mexico at Hawaii

LINE: Hawaii -15.5
ATS PICK: Hawaii
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

As it turns out – considering San Jose State’s good performance against San Diego State on Friday night – that New Mexico’s 38-21 loss on the road last week wasn’t all that bad.

New Lobo head coach Danny Gonzales has already done some nice things with the offense. With QB Tevaka Tuioti healthy – something he wasn’t throughout last year – the passing game was strong against the Spartans and the offense put up close to 450 yards.

And now it gets to travel to Hawaii.

Don’t get thrown off by the Rainbow Warriors’ 31-7 loss to Wyoming last week – the Cowboys are a different team in Laramie. This is an interesting team under new head coach Todd Graham.

The running game is going to rip through the Lobos, the defense isn’t that bad, and weird things happen to teams that make the long trip to Honolulu.

The 15.5 is a lot, but the Lobos have lost their last nine games as a program by 11 points or more. The Hawaii team that beat Fresno State by 15 to start the season will show up for the home opener.

NEXT: Liberty at Virginia Tech

2. Liberty at Virginia Tech

LINE: Virginia Tech -17
ATS PICK: Virginia Tech
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

Two warnings before diving in here.

First, this was originally at Virginia Tech -14.5 when this was first put together. I’m an Always Go With Your First Answer guy, so the call stays.

Second, there’s a snob aspect in play here, and it proved costly a few weeks ago when the pick was Syracuse against the spread before a big-time butt-kicking by Liberty.

When there’s a shot at taking a Power Five program – especially one as good as Virginia Tech – against a Group of Fiver, take your chances.

Liberty has been terrific. Its running game is dominant, Malik Willis is a dangerous quarterback, and the last four games have all been blowouts.

Yeah, the team is 6-0, but out of those six, there’s a win over North Alabama from the FCS ranked, and the five FBS teams are a combined 4-26 and one of those wins came against an FCS team.

New year, new team, new talent, but in the previous two seasons up in the big leagues against FBS programs, Liberty is 0-5 with all five defeats in ugly blowouts. That includes getting 44 hung on the board by last year’s Miserable Rutgers offense.

The two programs aren’t all that far apart, the Hokies should care about putting this away after two straight rough games – a loss to Wake Forest and a fight of a win over Louisville – and as long as it’s not looking ahead to the Miami game, it should be fine.

But that’s not enough? Okay. The Hokie running game should push for close to 300 rushing yards against a D that’s been great all year – including against Syracuse – but just allowed 215 against Southern Miss.

NEXT: Michigan at Indiana

1. Michigan at Indiana

LINE: Michigan -3.5
ATS PICK: Michigan
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

Isn’t Jim Harbaugh fired yet?

The guy lost a game. FIRE HIM … IT’S OVER … HE FAILED …

James Franklin and PJ Fleck are 0-2, Ed Orgeron has ordered the Gene Chizik special, and Mike Leach has been a disaster at Mississippi State so far, but Harbaugh’s team lost to a mediocre Michigan State team and now everyone wants him gone?

Okay, fine, whatever, but how has Harbaugh done in regular season games after a loss?

Last year, 52-0 over Rutgers after the Wisconsin blowout. After the Penn State loss? 45-14 over Notre Dame. In 2018 after the opening game loss to Notre Dame, 49-3 over Western Michigan.

How about after losing to Michigan State in 2017? 27-20 over Indiana.

How about after losing to Iowa in 2016? (By the way, it was a 14-13 loss on the road to the Hawkeyes on a walk-off field goal – the only loss before this last week to a team that didn’t finish with ten wins or more.) 20-10 over Indiana.

And now Michigan gets Indiana again after a loss, and the line is only 3.5.

This is an okay Indiana team, but the offense hasn’t rocked in the first two games and now it has a ticked off Michigan team to deal with.

The Wolverines were better than they showed against Michigan State, the passing game has been solid, and you never, ever, ever, ever, ever mess with a streak.

The last Indiana win over Michigan? 1987.

2009 and 1999 were the only times during the losing run that IU lost by fewer than four points.
