1 woman injured in 'relatively minor' Blue Line train derailment near O'Hare

CHICAGO _ One woman was injured when the wheels of a Blue Line train slipped off the track in a "relatively minor" derailment Wednesday night as it headed into the O'Hare International Airport station.

It happened about 7 p.m. CDT, according to the Chicago Transit Authority, which reported "major delays." A total of 73 passengers were evacuated, according to the Chicago Fire Department, and one 39-year-old woman with a back injury was transported to Resurrection Medical Center.

The incident happened as the train was "going into the platform" at O'Hare, according to the Chicago Fire Department. Authorities said the train did not tip over.

A "temporary suspension of trains" was in effect between those two stations, and the CTA was working to get bus shuttles and alternative transportation for riders.

"If you're going to O'Hare, you need to take a shuttle bus from Rosemont. No trains to O'Hare," an announcement on an O'Hare-bound Blue Line train said at about 8:45 p.m.

Trains were operating only between Forest Park and Rosemont, the CTA said.
