One person was shot Monday in Chicago.

A man was wounded in a shooting during an attempted robbery in Austin on the West Side.

He was standing on a corner about 6:45 p.m. in the 600 block of North Leamington Avenue, when someone armed with a handgun approached and demanded his property, Chicago police said. The gunman then fired a round, striking the 24-year-old in the hand. He took himself to West Suburban Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition.

Twenty-one people were shot, five of them fatally, last weekend citywide.
