A 43-year-old woman was released without charges following a domestic shooting Friday that left a man dead in Austin on the West Side.

The pair were involved in a “physical altercation” about 4:30 p.m. Jan. 31 in a home in the 5700 block of West Lake Street when she pulled out a gun and opened fire, Chicago police said.

The 37-year-old man, who was also carrying a gun, was hit in the chest and leg and died at the scene, police said.

His death was ruled a homicide, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He remains unidentified.

A police source said the woman has a valid FOID card, and the shooting was domestic-related.

The woman was arrested but released later, police said. A police spokesperson could not say if detectives determined she had acted in self-defense.
