1 killed, 5 wounded in shootings in Chicago

Sept. 11--One man was killed and five other people were wounded in shootings in Chicago Thursday afternoon through Friday morning, police said. Three of the shootings occurred in a span of 10 minutes.

--A 21-year-old man died after he was shot on the 1600 block of North Francisco Avenue in the Logan Square neighborhood around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, said Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago police spokesman.

The man was shot in the lower back and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Zala said.

--A 35-year-old man was seriously wounded about 7:50 p.m. Thursday in the South Shore neighborhood on the South Side, Zala said.

The man was crossing the street in the 2400 block of East 75th Street when someone dressed in black walked up and started firing, Zala said.

The man was struck in the abdomen and was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

--At 5:30 p.m., a 20-year-old man was on the 6800 block of South Morgan Street in the Englewood neighborhood when he was shot in the stomach, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Trainor said.

--Around the same time, a 26-year-old man was shot in the leg on the 200 block of East 103rd Street, Trainor said. The man was in a parked car in the Rosemoor neighborhood when another car drove up and someone began shooting, police said.

--At 5:20 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was shot on the 10700 block of South Indiana Avenue in the Roseland neighborhood, Trainor said.

The teen was hit in the leg and taken to Roseland Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. The teen was on the street when someone drove up and began firing, police said.

--At 3:15 p.m., a 38-year-old man was shot several times on the 2400 block of West 79th Street in the Wrightwood neighborhood, Zala said.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition, Zala said.
