A man was killed and two people were injured in a crash Tuesday in southwest suburban Joliet, according to preliminary information from Joliet police.

The man, 48, was driving east on Cass Street about 10:20 a.m. when a 23-year-old woman drove her vehicle through a red light at Briggs Street and slammed into the passenger side of his vehicle, police said.

The man was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Silver Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Two passengers in his vehicle were hospitalized also, but are expected to survive their injuries.

It was not clear if the 23-year-old woman was injured or cited. Police did not immediately respond to a request for further details.

The Joliet Police Traffic Unit continues to investigate the crash.
