Two men were shot, one of them killed Sunday in Back of the Yards on the South Side.

The two men, 56 and 47, were on the sidewalk about 5:45 p.m., in the 1900 block of West Garfield Boulevard when someone walked up to them and opened fire, Chicago police said.

The 56-year-old was struck in the neck and the 47-year-old was hit once in the elbow, police said.

They were both taken to the University of Chicago Medical center, police said. The 56-year-old man died from his injuries, the 47-year-old man has had his condition stabilized.

The medical examiner’s office has yet to determine his official cause of death.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
